About the role#
As a Junior Software Developer at BMO, you will join our campus program for a 4-month internship during the Winter 2027 term. This role is designed to integrate you into our team, allowing you to gain practical skills while contributing to real projects. You will work within a professional environment where you are expected to think creatively, solve problems, and collaborate across functional teams.
What you'll do#
- Drive the overall software development lifecycle, including transforming requirements into features.
- Write code, manage design specifications, and support system design.
- Translate user requirements into technical specifications and document client needs.
- Conduct software testing, maintenance, and debugging of business systems and service applications.
- Ensure code and configurations adhere to security, logging, error handling, and performance standards.
- Analyze and implement new software programs while performing preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Evaluate new technologies for fit and impact on existing systems.
- Follow release management processes and apply version controls.
- Apply the BMO Risk Management Framework to protect bank assets and adhere to regulations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an academic program, specifically in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, with an intent to return to studies.
- Proficiency in programming, cloud computing, and microservices.
- Experience with the system development lifecycle, test-driven development, and applications integration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative team relationships.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Emotional agility, adaptability, and a strong learning mindset.
- Knowledge of quality assurance, testing, and technology business requirements analysis.
