About the role#
BMO is hiring a Junior Software Developer for a four-month internship during the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Toronto, Ontario. You will join our campus program to gain hands-on experience while contributing to real projects. We are looking for students currently enrolled in an academic program who intend to return to their studies following this term.
What you'll do#
- Drive the software development lifecycle by transforming user requirements into technical features.
- Write, test, and maintain code while preparing design specifications.
- Analyze and implement new software programs while documenting the process.
- Support system design and provide input on security requirements.
- Troubleshoot and fix faults in system and core software components.
- Ensure all configurations meet standards for security, logging, error handling, and performance.
- Evaluate new technologies for system fit and potential impact.
- Follow release management processes and apply version controls.
- Interpret client requirements and propose new technical solutions.
- Apply the Risk Management Framework to protect bank assets and adhere to policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Computer Science or Computer Engineering academic program.
- Foundational skills in programming, cloud computing, and microservices.
- Experience with the system development lifecycle, test driven development, and quality assurance.
- Ability to analyze business requirements and map them to technical solutions.
- Proficiency in system and technology integration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Creative thinking and emotional agility.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
