About the role#
Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is hiring a Student Assistant- Peer Advisor for the Upward Bound Program. This role involves supporting academic advisors and working directly with high school students to help them succeed in their studies.
What you'll do#
- Assist academic advisors with supplemental classroom instruction.
- Facilitate group discussions and presentations.
- Help individual participants and groups understand and learn subject matter.
- Keep a log of all tutoring and advising services provided.
- Document the specific subjects covered during tutoring sessions.
- Attend monthly meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in evening events as required.
What you'll need#
- You must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student in good academic standing.
- Experience working with high school students in an educational or residential setting.
- Experience tutoring high school subjects or supervising adolescents.
- Strong conflict resolution and management skills.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
- Background in tutoring subjects such as English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, or Science.
- Knowledge of TRIO programs or other educational equity initiatives.
- Training or education in child and adolescent development, peer counseling, or crisis intervention.

- The work modality is on-site.
- This is a paid, full-time student assistant position with rolling enrollment.
