About the role#
As an Estimating Intern, you will work with our team to develop cost proposals and project bids for heavy civil construction. This role provides a look at how construction costs are built and offers experience with industry software while you contribute to bid preparation alongside experienced estimators.
What you'll do#
- Review project drawings, specifications, and documentation to assist with quantity takeoffs and preliminary cost estimates.
- Support the bid preparation process by organizing documents and compiling quotes from subcontractors and vendors.
- Learn to use estimating software including HCSS HeavyBid, Trimble Bid2Win, Agtek, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Research current pricing for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and operations teams to see the project lifecycle from bid to execution.
- Maintain accurate documentation of project files, estimates, and bids.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- A strong interest in the heavy civil construction industry and a career in estimating.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and the rest of the Office Suite.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with a focus on detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work in a team environment across multiple projects.

- This is an on-site internship based in Kansas City, Missouri.
- The term for this position is Summer 2027.
- This is a paid, full-time internship.
