About the role#
As a Summer Intern, you will support the safety team in maintaining a safe work environment on heavy civil construction projects. This role provides exposure to construction safety practices, regulatory compliance, and daily field operations. You will work with project teams and safety professionals to learn how safety integrates into every stage of project execution.
What you'll do#
- Monitor safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Participate in site walks, inspections, and safety audits to identify and report potential hazards.
- Document safety observations, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and training sessions.
- Review and update site-specific safety plans.
- Learn incident reporting and investigation processes.
- Observe the coordination of drug testing and safety certifications.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and crews on safety matters.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong interest in safety and heavy civil construction.
- Basic computer skills, with a preference for Microsoft Office experience.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and work in a team.
- Eagerness to work in a hands-on, outdoor environment.
- Reliable transportation to and from project sites.
