About the role#
The Controls / Robotics Engineer Intern will support the development of next-generation control algorithms for paving and machine performance applications. Working with experienced engineers, you will design, simulate, implement, and tune control systems that address complex machine performance problems. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Build and execute simulations to model plant and machine behavior.
- Validate algorithm performance and evaluate design trade-offs before hardware testing.
- Tune and calibrate control systems on test benches and machines.
- Analyze test data to improve system stability, responsiveness, and repeatability.
- Collaborate with electronics, software, systems, and product teams to meet functional and performance requirements.
- Document your methods, results, and recommendations.
- Present your findings to the engineering team at the end of the internship.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (rising senior) or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Coursework or project experience in feedback control theory such as PID, state-space, or system identification.
- Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink.
- Familiarity with C/C++ or Python for algorithm implementation and data analysis.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams.
