    About the role#

    The Children and Family Law Division (CAFL) Boston Office seeks interns for the Spring 2027 term. Interns work alongside lawyers and social workers to represent children and parents in cases where the Department of Children and Families removes children from their homes due to claims of abuse or neglect. This unit also provides legal representation in child requiring assistance cases.

    What you'll do#

    Interns work directly with attorneys, investigators, and social service advocates. Responsibilities include:

    • Significant client contact through interviews and home or placement visits.
    • Case investigation to assist with trial preparation.
    • Service advocacy on behalf of clients.
    • Negotiation with opposing counsel.
    • Legal research and writing for motion arguments, custody hearings, and termination of parental rights trials, or on novel legal issues before the Court.
    • Reviewing pre-trial discovery and Department of Children and Families case files.
    • Attending and participating in education-related matters for clients, such as suspension hearings and IEP meetings.
    • Making appearances in Juvenile Court for Child Requiring Assistance clients, if certified.
    • Maintaining strict confidentiality of all client information and work performed.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in Law School.
    • A demonstrated commitment to zealous advocacy, community-oriented defense, and the protection of constitutional and human rights.
    • Access to reliable transportation for travel to courts, clients, and investigation locations.
    • Access to a personal computer with home internet sufficient to work remotely.
