About the role#
The Community Assistance Fellow serves with the National Park Service Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program. This role supports locally-led conservation and outdoor recreation projects. You will assist with schoolyard greening initiatives in the Los Angeles area to help expand technical assistance capacity. This is a full-time, paid AmeriCorps position.
What you'll do#
- Support staff with outreach, engagement, and site analysis.
- Attend and facilitate meetings with project partners regarding schoolyard greening and outdoor recreation.
- Complete a formal schoolyard greening concept plan.
- Develop an outreach strategy for the Los Angeles area.
- Provide direct support to an ongoing schoolyard greening project.
- Assist with schematic design, graphic communication, and project presentations.
What you'll need#
- Experience in landscape architecture, urban planning, or a closely related field.
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Status as a United States citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien.
- Ability to provide your own transportation to work locations or use public transit.
- Willingness to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
Location & details#
- This position is based in Thousand Oaks, California.
- The work modality is hybrid, combining local teleservice with occasional in-person meetings at office or project sites.
- Service dates run from November 2026 through October 2027.
- Physical requirements include the ability to move across varied terrain and lift up to 25 pounds.
