About the role#
The Estimating Intern supports our estimating team with cost analysis and project planning. You will gain hands-on experience by assisting with quantity take-offs, managing subcontractor communications, and conducting product research. This is a full-time, on-site role for the summer of 2027 based in Washington, DC.
What you'll do#
- Perform quantity take-offs, unit pricing, and cost comparisons for materials and labor.
- Manage subcontractor lists and conduct research on various products and suppliers.
- Visit project sites to collect data on topography, utilities, and access.
- Analyze historical cost data to support current project bids.
- Prepare and reconcile cost estimates while monitoring actual versus estimated expenditures.
- Support bid development by maintaining tender documentation and preparing expenditure statements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A foundational understanding of construction terminology, materials, and building systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking and analyzing project costs.
- Basic knowledge of quantity takeoffs and cost estimating principles.
