About the role#
This is a paid, full-time summer internship for law students interested in family law. You will work alongside experienced attorneys and firm leaders to gain practical experience. The program is designed to mirror the responsibilities of a first-year associate, providing you with direct mentorship and professional development. Many participants go on to work as part-time law clerks during their third year or secure full-time positions after graduation.
What you'll do#
- Draft and analyze legal documents for active family law cases.
- Conduct legal research and help prepare trial materials.
- Attend court proceedings with experienced attorneys.
- Join client meetings to gain insight into case strategy.
- Work closely with a Litigation Partner to build a foundation in family law practice.
- Participate in firm-sponsored networking and social events.
- Assist with other tasks as needed to support firm operations.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current 2L student (2028 graduate) in good standing at an accredited law school.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- A clear interest in pursuing a career in family law.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to reside in the assigned office location for the program duration.
- Flexibility regarding work locations upon graduation.

- This role is based in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
- The internship takes place during the summer of 2027.
- This is an on-site, full-time position.
