About the role#
This internship provides experience across multiple areas of construction management and business operations. You will work with a vertically integrated team to learn how heavy construction projects move from the bidding phase to completion. This role involves travel, work at various job sites, and the flexibility to work nights or weekends when the project requires it.
What you'll do#
- Manage public and private construction projects, including finding and bidding on work using industry software.
- Create contracts and sub-contracts while working alongside estimators, project managers, and crew foremen.
- Assist with asphalt plant operations, including running scales, supporting the yard crew, and performing general plant maintenance.
- Gain hands-on experience on construction and prep crews by learning to set up jobs and operate heavy equipment.
- Support business management tasks by reviewing monthly projections, job costs, workload, and financial statements.
- Learn about aggregate manufacturing, logistics, and material sales at quarry and pit locations.
- Manage union collective bargaining agreements and support talent management efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Associate's degree program in Construction Management or Operations Management, or two to four years of related experience.
- Proficiency with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, procedure manuals, and operating instructions.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and employees.
- Mathematical skills for computing rates, ratios, percentages, and interpreting bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Willingness to work in outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, and loud noise.
- Ability to lift or move more than 25 pounds and perform physical tasks like standing, walking, and climbing.
