About the role#
DMR Technologies designs and manufactures unmanned aircraft systems for agriculture, public safety, and defense. We are looking for a Drone Systems Engineering Intern to join our team in Lafayette. You will work alongside engineers, technicians, and flight operations staff to build products that are deployed in the real world. This role involves hands-on work across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines.
What you'll do#
- Support the design, assembly, testing, and deployment of unmanned aircraft systems.
- Build and test prototype aircraft.
- Assist with mechanical, electrical, and software integration.
- Help with flight testing and data collection.
- Troubleshoot hardware and system-level issues.
- Maintain CAD models, engineering documentation, and BOM updates.
- Integrate sensors, payloads, cameras, and communications equipment.
- Support internal software tools, automation, and AI-powered engineering workflows.
- Contribute to manufacturing process improvements.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related technical field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- You are comfortable working with tools and hands-on equipment.
- A curious, self-motivated approach to learning.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360.
- Familiarity with electronics, soldering, embedded systems, or microcontrollers.
- Programming experience in JavaScript, Python, or C++.
- Experience with React, web application development, or AI-assisted development tools.
- Knowledge of robotics, autonomous systems, 3D printing, or drone building.
- An FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is a plus.
