    About the role#

    This internship provides hands-on experience with the planning, modeling, and operation of the electric transmission system in South Carolina. You will work alongside engineers on projects that support grid reliability, generator interconnections, and system modeling. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027 based in Cayce.

    What you'll do#

    • Maintain and update electric transmission system models and databases.
    • Support engineers performing power flow, contingency, and transmission reliability studies.
    • Assist with the preparation of generator interconnection study documentation and reports.
    • Update transmission system maps and planning cases.
    • Analyze and validate transmission system data and results.
    • Assist with engineering projects related to system planning, operations, and regulatory compliance.
    • Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and engineering reports.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program with a minimum GPA of 2.5.
    • Your expected graduation date must be between Fall 2027 and 2029.
    • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn engineering software applications.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and within a team.
    • Coursework in power systems or electric energy systems is preferred.
    • Experience with Microsoft Excel, data analysis, or programming languages such as Python and VBA is a plus.
    • An interest in electric transmission, power system analysis, or utility operations.
