About the role#
This internship provides civil engineering students with hands-on experience in the built environment. You will work alongside experienced professionals on infrastructure projects, gaining exposure to civil and land development, water and environmental services, and construction-related tasks. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Research and document existing conditions at project sites through field visits.
- Perform engineering calculations and assist with construction cost estimates.
- Create designs using AutoCAD or manual drafting methods.
- Coordinate with government agencies, clients, and other project professionals.
- Assist with construction specifications, bid tabulations, and quantity calculations.
- Conduct construction inspections and monitor project quality.
- Support survey crews and assist lab technicians with materials testing.
- Manage project correspondence and keep accurate records.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project software.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts including geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to collect data and draw valid conclusions.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Prior experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful.
- Experience with AutoCAD is highly desirable.
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks and special projects.
