About the role#
This internship offers civil engineering students a chance to apply classroom knowledge to real-world projects. You will work alongside experienced professionals on infrastructure tasks, including roadway design and construction support. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Research and visit project sites to document existing conditions.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Create drawings using manual methods or AutoCAD.
- Coordinate with government agencies and clients to secure design information and approvals.
- Manage project correspondence and maintain accurate records.
- Visit construction sites to monitor work quality and progress.
- Help write and edit construction specifications.
- Calculate bid quantities, tabulate bid items, and estimate construction costs.
- Assist survey crews and perform construction inspections.
- Support lab technicians with materials testing.
What you'll need#
- One to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering.
- A valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project software.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts, including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to interpret technical journals and instructions.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful, as is experience with AutoCAD.
- Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
