About the role#
DOWL is seeking a Water and Wastewater Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This position offers hands-on experience in water resources engineering, including hydrology, hydraulics, and hydraulic structures. You will receive mentorship to support your development as a future engineer.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations, technical report writing, and project design.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Tabulate bid items and calculate construction bid quantities.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using software like HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
- Use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and create map exhibits.
- Provide construction administration and inspection support.
- Collaborate with other engineering discipline groups on various projects.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level course work toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, preferably with a focus on water.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Strong analytical skills to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of ARC GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering fields is a plus.
