About the role#
DOWL is seeking an intern for the Summer 2027 term to join our water and wastewater team in Reno, Nevada. This full-time, paid position offers mentorship for students pursuing a career in water resources engineering. You will gain hands-on experience by supporting various engineering projects and collaborating with our experienced staff.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations, technical report writing, project design, and construction inspection.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Tabulate bid items and calculate construction quantities to estimate costs.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
- Use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and create map exhibits.
- Provide support to other engineering disciplines including geotechnical, transportation, and structural teams.
- Assist with construction administration tasks.
What you'll need#
- One to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, with a focus on water preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Understanding of geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals, instructions, and diagrams.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to collect data and draw valid conclusions.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Knowledge of ARC GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering fields is a plus.
