About the role#
DOWL is seeking a Water Resources Intern for Summer 2027 to provide engineering support on a variety of projects. This internship focuses on hydrology, hydraulics, and hydraulic structures. You will receive one-on-one mentorship to gain practical experience in the field of water resources engineering.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations, alternative solution analysis, cost estimating, technical report writing, and final design.
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
- Use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and create map exhibits.
- Support other engineering disciplines including geotechnical, transportation, and structural teams.
- Conduct field work and provide construction administration support.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- One to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in Civil Engineering.
- A valid driver license.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts including statistics, probabilities, and trigonometry.
- Capacity to read and interpret technical journals and present information to co-workers.
- Prior experience in construction or civil engineering is preferred.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.
- Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.

- This is a full-time, paid internship based on-site in Anchorage, Alaska.
- The role involves an office environment with intermittent field work at construction sites.
