About the role#
The Joseph Moore Museum at Earlham College is hiring a full-time, early career museum professional. This is a one-year, grant-funded position with the potential for a one-year extension. The role provides broad experience in museum operations with a primary focus on education. You will report to museum faculty, working closely with the Curator of Education while also assisting the Director with marketing, administration, and limited operations.
What you'll do#
- Manage daily scheduling for student staff across hosting, education, and animal care teams.
- Teach field trip programs for all ages, including planetarium shows and live animal demonstrations.
- Coordinate the care of live animal collections, including reptiles and amphibians, and train student staff on habitat maintenance.
- Perform daily exhibit maintenance, including restocking and identifying repair needs.
- Develop and oversee evening programs for the campus and community.
- Assist with program development, research, and the planning of special events.
- Represent the museum at on and off campus events.
- Manage social media accounts and newsletters.
- Assist with gift shop inventory, merchandising, and restocking.
- Create and maintain data sets for visitor statistics and reporting.
- Provide general administrative support to the museum and museum studies program.
What you'll need#
- A BA or BS in a related field.
- Prior experience in a museum or an informal education setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, digital tools, graphic design, and social media platforms.
- Strong verbal, written, and facilitation skills.
- Interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, and community partners.
- Experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Alignment with the mission and values of the Joseph Moore Museum and Earlham College.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
