About the role#
The Global Relations Student Mentor program helps new international students adjust to life at East Stroudsburg University. Mentors act as guides and role models for a group of approximately 30 students. You will help them navigate campus life, connect with the university community, and support their academic and social development. This role begins the semester before your mentees enroll at the university.
What you'll do#
- Act as a primary contact for exchange students, providing guidance and cultural information.
- Reach out to new students via email before they arrive.
- Help students navigate campus and refer them to appropriate resources.
- Set a positive example in your own academic, social, and personal behavior.
- Build rapport with mentees and offer feedback to help them solve problems.
- Participate in cultural events and student engagement activities.
- Schedule and facilitate weekly meetings with your group and prepare summaries.
- Maintain mentor hours, track attendance, and log activities.
- Connect bi-weekly with a Student Success Coach to discuss student cases.
- Contact the Associate Provost for Student Success regarding difficult situations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at ESU in good academic and disciplinary standing.
- A minimum 2.75 GPA maintained throughout the appointment.
- Completion of a Study Abroad Outgoing Experience.
- No current disciplinary sanctions.
- Ability to complete training modules for Peer Mentor certification and the Study Abroad Services program.
- Basic computer skills and experience in customer service.
- Ability to handle clerical tasks.
- Majors preferred include Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, or International Relations.

- This position is located in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
- Work is on-site.
- This is a part-time, paid position with an hourly rate of $13.00.
- Hiring is on a rolling basis.
