About the role#
Student Desk Workers serve as a core part of the security structure and the first point of contact for residents in our halls. You will work within the Office of Residential Life and Housing to support daily operations and ensure a positive experience for all community members. This role is open to students across various majors, including Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science.
What you'll do#
- Manage building access by enforcing guest and resident entry policies.
- Provide customer service to residents and guests while handling clerical tasks like answering phones and managing packages.
- Document shift activities by filing a Duty Log for every shift.
- Assist with the opening and closing processes of your assigned residence hall.
- Act as a resource for university operations and help residents navigate campus services.
- Participate in emergency procedures and evacuation drills when necessary.
- Communicate regularly with your supervisor, the Assistant Director of Residential Life, and professional staff.
- Attend all staff meetings and assist in training new team members.
- Serve as a role model and uphold University policies, Federal, State, and Local laws.
- Maintain confidentiality and respect individual privacy at all times.
What you'll need#
- A minimum overall GPA of 2.2 or higher.
- Good conduct standing with the University throughout your employment.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to read and write English.
