About the role#
Enovix is looking for an R&D Intern to join our team in Fremont. You will support the design, fabrication, and testing of lithium-ion batteries that use silicon-based anodes. This role is intended for a PhD student who wants to apply their research experience to real-world battery development. You will work alongside our scientists and engineers to solve technical challenges in silicon anode commercialization.
What you'll do#
- Design and evaluate silicon-based anode materials, composites, binders, and electrode formulations.
- Build electrodes and assemble coin, pouch, or other test cells for electrochemical evaluation.
- Run battery testing including cycling, rate capability, fast-charge testing, and impedance measurements.
- Analyze key performance metrics like capacity retention, coulombic efficiency, impedance growth, and swelling.
- Investigate degradation mechanisms such as volume expansion, SEI evolution, and particle fracture.
- Use characterization techniques like SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, FTIR, BET, or TGA to study materials.
- Document your experimental procedures and findings in technical reports.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program focused on batteries, electrochemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering.
- Research experience in lithium-ion batteries, specifically with silicon-carbon or advanced anode systems.
- A solid grasp of battery fundamentals like electrode design, interfacial chemistry, transport limitations, and cell degradation.
- Hands-on experience with battery cell assembly and electrochemical testing.
- Ability to turn complex experimental data into clear technical recommendations.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site internship located in Fremont, California.
- The role is paid at an hourly rate of $40 to $45, depending on your experience and qualifications.
- The internship is full-time with a duration of 3 to 6 months.
