About the role#
Family Health Centers of San Diego is looking for Dental Assistant Externs to join our team. This volunteer role provides support to the dental department while you gain hands-on knowledge of community health care. You will work under the direct supervision of the Dental Clinic Coordinator to assist team members in maintaining an efficient department.
What you'll do#
- Provide support to the assigned dental department as a volunteer.
- Assist team members with daily clinical tasks under direct supervision.
- Gain exposure to the community health model.
- Perform other assigned volunteer duties within the scope of your role.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited school for dental assistant certification or degree.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Genuine interest in our mission to provide care to the medically underserved.
- Ability to work effectively with patients from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work well both independently and in a team.
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity and the ability to maintain professional working relationships.
- Fluency in Spanish, English, or Arabic is desired but not required.

- This is an on-site, unpaid volunteer position.
- Opportunities are available at multiple locations across San Diego, California.
- The term is rolling.
