    About the role#

    This summer position with the Department of Public Works offers practical experience in highway and bridge maintenance. You will work under the guidance of technical professionals to support the provincial road network. The role is based in Sydney River and runs through the summer of 2026.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with highway construction and maintenance tasks.
    • Perform manual brush cutting.
    • Paint lines and trucks.
    • Collect litter along roadways.
    • Maintain buildings and yards.
    • Participate in safety training, including First Aid, WHMIS, and traffic control.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be a high school student at least 16 years of age and returning to school in the fall.
    • A valid Class 5 driver's license is preferred.
    • You should be a team player who communicates well.
    • Safety awareness is essential for this work.
    • An interest in highway and bridge construction is helpful.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Sydney River, Nova Scotia.
    • Schedule: Full-time, on-site.
    • Conditions: Most work takes place outdoors in various weather conditions.
    • Compensation: This is a paid position.
