About the role#
This is a paid, full-time internship based in Madison Heights, Michigan. You will work within the Adhesive Technologies business unit, specifically supporting the metal packaging team. This role covers the Winter and Summer 2027 terms, running from January 11th to August 13th. Please note that this position does not offer visa sponsorship, housing stipends, or relocation support.
What you'll do#
- Work in the can sealants development lab to support metal packaging products.
- Perform physical property testing and compound elastomer-based sealants.
- Research new sustainable, biodegradable, and recyclable polymers for sealant formulations.
- Gain experience with polymer compounding strategies and a wide range of chemistries.
- Support lab activities through data analysis and physical testing.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to contribute to product innovation and performance improvements.
What you'll need#
- Current status as an undergraduate Senior or a Graduate student in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with analytical and physical property testing lab equipment.
- A comfort level with conducting independent research and drawing conclusions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence presenting technical work to large groups and cross-functional teams.
- An ability to interpret data and connect material properties to formulation outcomes.
