About the role#
Academic Strategists assist OAOA students with their academic development. You will help peers with exam preparation, test-taking, note-taking, presentations, and citations. This role is a student employment position for up to 5 hours per week during the fall semester. You will report to the OAOA Assistant Director.
What you'll do#
- Provide personalized academic support based on student needs.
- Conduct outreach to encourage the use of OAOA services.
- Hold weekly office hours and meet with students by appointment.
- Lead one academic skills workshop each semester.
- Participate in professional development, including training sessions, SLI sessions, and supervisor meetings.
- Model integrity and respect while maintaining confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Current participation in OAOA.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Strong listening, written, and communication skills.
- An empathetic approach to helping students navigate academic challenges.
- Preference is given to those with previous experience in tutoring or academic support.
- Ability to exercise patience and creativity while supporting student growth.
