    About the role#

    The Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium offers a ten-week internship for students or recent graduates of an accredited veterinary technology program. This role provides hands-on training in zoological medicine. You will work five days per week, totaling at least 400 hours, with potential for weekend or holiday shifts.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with clinical procedures by setting up and breaking down medical equipment.
    • Learn immobilization techniques, including anesthetic monitoring, recording, and catheterization.
    • Administer routine treatments for hospitalized animals.
    • Perform preventative health care tasks such as manual restraint, phlebotomy, and radiography.
    • Maintain hospital standards through cleaning, sanitization, and equipment care.
    • Conduct laboratory testing, including urinalysis, fecal exams, and blood smears.

    What you'll need#

    • Completion of at least one year at an accredited school of veterinary technology or recent graduation.
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to obtain a negative TB test.
    • Physical ability to lift 75 pounds.
    • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, in various weather conditions.
    • Successful completion of a background screening.

    • Pay: $15.00 per hour.
    • Status: Full-time, non-exempt.
