    About the role#

    As a Civil Roadway Design Intern at KPFF, you will work with experienced engineers on transportation infrastructure projects. You will gain hands-on experience with roadway design, plan development, engineering calculations, and construction support. You will learn how design decisions respond to agency standards, site conditions, and project requirements.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with roadway design tasks including horizontal and vertical alignments, roadway geometry, grading, and drainage.
    • Help prepare plans, profiles, cross sections, details, quantity calculations, and cost estimates.
    • Support the development and organization of design files using civil design and drafting software.
    • Coordinate with drainage, utility, structures, traffic, survey, and environmental disciplines.
    • Contribute to team discussions, quality-control reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
    • Participate in the Weekly Intern Training Series and other mentoring opportunities.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor or Master degree program in Civil Engineering or a related field.
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in undergraduate coursework.
    • Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals and an interest in roadway design.
    • Ability to interpret basic survey information, plans, and technical documentation.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong technical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
    • Familiarity with Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or AutoCAD is preferred.
    • Completed coursework in transportation engineering, surveying, hydrology, or hydraulics is preferred.
    • Previous internship, research, or design-team experience related to civil engineering is preferred.

    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: Full-time, on-site.
