    About the role#

    As a Mechanical Designer intern, you will join a multi-disciplinary R&D team in Ottawa. This role focuses on the development of precision production tooling essential for manufacturing optical communication products. You will work on projects from the initial concept phase through to the creation of mature, documented designs.

    What you'll do#

    • Participate in the development of precision production tooling designs.
    • Prepare engineering drawings of parts and assemblies using 3D solid CAD tools.
    • Develop new solutions and evaluate alternative concepts using mechanical engineering and manufacturing principles.
    • Compile design requirements, evaluate conceptual designs, and deliver detailed design documentation.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure design choices are balanced and optimized across multiple disciplines.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a 3rd or 4th year student in a Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree program at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
    • Proficiency in 3D solid modeling CAD tools such as SolidWorks or SolidEdge.
    • Demonstrated ability to produce part and assembly drawings that comply with ANSI drafting standards.
    • Practical and theoretical knowledge of metal machining processes, design of machined parts, material selection, and structural mechanics.

    • Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: 8-month term from January 2027 to August 2027.
    • Compensation: Paid internship.
