    About the role#

Marvell is looking for Ph.D. interns to join our AI and machine learning teams. You will work on one of two tracks: applying AI to chip design or building internal AI tools for our engineering teams. This program places you inside active research efforts where you will work on real design data and production-scale problems. You will gain experience deploying research within a complex semiconductor engineering environment.

    What you'll do#

    • Develop and apply ML models, including GNNs, reinforcement learning, and generative approaches, to chip design tasks like placement, routing, and power estimation.
    • Work with production EDA tool flows and real design data.
    • Build predictive models to reduce design iteration cycles.
    • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify automation targets and validate model outputs.
    • Present research findings and model performance to engineering leadership.
    • Design, implement, and evaluate LLM-based tools and agentic workflows.
    • Build RAG pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, and prompt engineering frameworks.
    • Evaluate model performance, safety, and reliability in production environments.
    • Collaborate with IT, security, and engineering stakeholders.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
    • Research focus in machine learning or AI systems.
    • Applied experience training, evaluating, and deploying ML models using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
    • Ability to write production-quality Python and familiarity with Git.
    • Rigorous experimental methodology skills.
    • Ability to communicate technical work clearly to research and engineering audiences.
    • Track 1 candidates should have coursework or research in VLSI design, computer architecture, or EDA, plus familiarity with graph-based ML or chip design flows like Cadence or Synopsys.
    • Track 2 candidates should have experience with agentic GenAI systems, transformers, and orchestration tools like LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, or Hugging Face.

    Location & details#

    • Locations: Santa Clara, Irvine, Westlake Village, CA; Austin, TX; Morrisville, NC; Chandler, AZ; Westborough, MA; Burlington, VT; Boise, ID.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Employment: Full-time.
    • This is a paid internship.
