About the role#
Meridian Health Services Corp. is hiring a Medical Assistant Extern for its pediatrics department in Muncie, Indiana. This is a full-time, paid externship with a rolling start date. You will work on-site to gain clinical and administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
What you'll do#
You will support providers and manage daily office tasks. Your responsibilities include:
- Greeting clients and answering phone calls.
- Updating patient information and managing insurance paperwork or prior approvals.
- Assisting with referrals, admissions, and laboratory arrangements.
- Taking patient vitals and weight.
- Administering injections and TB tests for new employees.
- Passing medications and assisting with patient assistance medications.
- Screening provider phone calls and handling problem calls.
- Faxing and phoning in prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Disposing of contaminated supplies.
- Training to cover other medical assistant duties.
- Following department policies and maintaining patient confidentiality.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited medical assisting program that requires an externship.
- Ability to pass a drug screen, TB test, and extensive background check.
- Ability to complete the fingerprinting process.

This position is located in Muncie, Indiana. The role is on-site and requires adherence to health protocols, including mask-wearing and sanitizing. The company recommends that employees receive flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
