About the role#
Michael Baker International is looking for Fire Protection Engineering Interns to join the team in Lakewood, Colorado. You will work within a full-service architectural and engineering group on projects ranging from initial proposals to final system commissioning. This role involves exposure to various facility types, including office buildings, warehouses, aircraft hangars, and maintenance facilities.
What you'll do#
- Complete fire protection system designs for fire alarms, mass notification, fire pumps, and sprinkler systems.
- Perform hydraulic calculations for fire pump and sprinkler design.
- Analyze life safety requirements, including building code compliance, egress analysis, and occupant load calculations.
- Assist senior staff with project completion and coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines.
- Conduct on-site system evaluations and assist with final system testing.
- Summarize submittals and contractor Requests for Information for review.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
- Understanding of fire alarm, mass notification, fire sprinkler, fire pump, clean agent, and high expansion foam systems.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
