About the role#
The Future Talent Program offers 10-12 week internships within our Research and Development Division. This role focuses on Protein and Structural Chemistry, where you will contribute to drug discovery by providing structural information. You will work with teams using X-ray crystallography and Cryo-electron microscopy to determine structures of drug-target complexes and other biological macromolecules.
What you'll do#
- Support drug discovery efforts through preparative protein purification, characterization, and various assays.
- Perform methods including SDS-PAGE, spectroscopic and analytical chromatography, and pre-crystallization assays.
- Execute crystallization screening, crystal optimization, and crystal harvesting.
- Prepare grids for Cryo-EM.
- Conduct data collection, processing, structure determination, and critical analysis of protein-ligand structural data.
- Maintain accurate records in an electronic notebook and follow safe laboratory practices.
- Present your data and interpretations to a team of scientists and attend departmental meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS/BA, Master's, or PhD program in Biology, Chemistry, or Biomedical Sciences.
- Completion of at least two years toward a BS/BA or one year toward a graduate degree.
- Availability for full-time work for 10-12 weeks between June and August 2027.
- Commitment to continue your education for at least one semester after the internship concludes.
- Basic laboratory skills in areas like structural biology, protein biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, or protein expression.
- Knowledge of protein characterization techniques and safe lab practices.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Experience with challenging biological macromolecules, functional assays, or ligand binding measurements is preferred.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, full-time, on-site internship.
