About the role#
The Standards Management team is part of the Security Governance and Risk Division. We manage Information Security documents, including policies, instructions, standards, and procedures. Our goal is to protect member and employee information by providing guidance on selecting and implementing security controls. As a summer associate, you will support these initiatives, conduct research on emerging technologies, and contribute to the maturation of our security requirements.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate industry frameworks to enhance existing security standards.
- Communicate and socialize proposed updates with stakeholders across the organization.
- Research and recommend security controls tailored to our specific needs.
- Support the migration between technology platforms, such as SharePoint Online, and manage documentation.
- Assist with short and long-term strategic planning for team initiatives.
- Research emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence and Post-Quantum Cryptography, to identify potential risks.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- Anticipated graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- A total of 4+ years of professional and educational experience, with at least 1 year in Information Technology or Security.
- Understanding of general IT concepts and business process optimization.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to communicate technical information to various management levels and build professional relationships.
- Experience or coursework in security risk, controls management, or cybersecurity frameworks like NIST, FedRAMP, PCI DSS, or HIPAA.
- Knowledge of federal banking regulations and privacy frameworks like GDPR or CCPA is preferred.

- This is a 12-week, full-time, on-site internship.
- Location: Vienna, Virginia.
- Term: May 2027 to August 2027.
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM ET.
