About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience by shadowing Child and Family Service Specialists. You will observe how the agency supports vulnerable populations, works with families facing child welfare intervention, and coordinates with the legal system to achieve permanency goals. This role focuses on helping children and families heal from trauma while maintaining community safety.
What you'll do#
- Shadow specialists to learn daily operations and case management.
- Advocate for the needs of families.
- Implement family-centered practice principles to include families in decision-making.
- Promote normalcy for children in care.
- Write clear, concise, and descriptive reports for legal entities and the court system.
- Identify and refer families to appropriate formal and informal interventions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, or graduation within the last year.
- Preferred academic background in psychology, sociology, criminal justice, human resources, public health, social work, or counseling.
- Experience in mental healthcare, criminal justice, or education is a plus.
- A strong interest in child welfare and family services.

- This is an on-site position located in Lincoln, Nebraska.
- The internship is a full-time, paid role.
- Term: Summer 2027.
