    About the role#

    The Tenants' Rights Unit in the Bronx seeks a legal intern for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. This role focuses on housing litigation and tenant advocacy outside of standard eviction proceedings. You will work with an experienced attorney to address housing instability through tenant organization and claim aggregation. This position provides exposure to substantive housing law, landlord-tenant litigation procedures, and complex affirmative litigation in state and federal courts.

    What you'll do#

    • Conduct client interviews and participate in advocacy meetings.
    • Perform legal research and draft substantive motions and pleadings.
    • Assist with eviction-defense cases and litigation regarding repairs and tenant harassment.
    • Support outreach efforts for affirmative litigation.
    • Observe or participate in settlement negotiations, court appearances, and calls with opposing counsel.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in law school.
    • Strong writing and legal research skills.
    • Experience with client advocacy.
    • Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.
