    About the role#

    NiSource is seeking a Communications Intern for a 12-week program during the summer of 2027. You will join the department to work on projects, collaborate with team members, and gain an overview of the utilities industry. This role is a full-time, paid internship designed for students looking to launch their careers in communications.

    What you'll do#

    • Assist with public relations projects, including charitable giving campaigns and community volunteer events.
    • Act as a brand ambassador at community events to share core company messages.
    • Create news content for the internal intranet and external corporate websites.
    • Produce content for news releases, customer mailings, and company fact sheets.
    • Update media contact and community stakeholder lists.
    • Conduct research on industry awards, speaking opportunities, and media placements.
    • Support social media activity.

    What you'll need#

    • Current undergraduate status as a rising junior or senior in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field.
    • Intermediate skills in Adobe Suite, with a specific focus on Photoshop.
    • Experience in photography, videography, or editing.
    • Strong writing and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

    Location & details#

    • This position is based in Merrillville, Indiana.
    • Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the office.
    • The internship is an on-site, full-time role starting in May 2027.
