About the role#
Join the Optics NMS Technical Support team to gain hands-on experience with optical networking technologies. You will support the team that manages Fiber Transmission Network platforms for telecom carriers. This role involves both customer-facing tasks and technical investigation within Nokia labs.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to server and virtual machine deployments.
- Design and set up testbeds using simulators and real equipment.
- Prepare demos and proof of concept configurations.
- Gain exposure to end-to-end optical networking architectures.
- Learn how networks are managed, specifically regarding operations, administration, maintenance, and provisioning.
What you'll need#
- You are currently a candidate for a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Knowledge of server hardware, HP Unix, and Red Hat Linux.
- Familiarity with virtual machines.
- Strong communication skills and a desire to learn.
- General knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Bash/Shell.
- General knowledge of optical and IP networking.
- The ability to test, diagnose, and troubleshoot technical issues.
Location & details#
- Location: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January to April).
- Modality: Hybrid (10 hours per week, with 1 day in the office per week).
- This is a paid, part-time internship position.
