About the role#
Parkland College is hiring a student employee to support the Chemistry and Instructional Materials Center. This position involves direct lab support, including preparing materials and maintaining equipment. You will work on-site to ensure labs are ready for student use.
What you'll do#
- Prepare chemical solutions, microbiology media, and lab supplies.
- Coordinate reagents and equipment for lab sessions.
- Set up and take down lab spaces.
- Clean glassware and restock lab stations.
- Maintain lab and safety equipment through regular checks.
- Handle chemical and biohazardous waste according to safety protocols.
- Package supplies for online labs and assist with general inventory.
- Complete required safety training and compliance checks.
What you'll need#
- Current eligibility for student employment as confirmed by Financial Aid.
- Completion of one year of high school chemistry or biology, or one semester of college level chemistry or biology.
- Strong communication skills for in-person and phone interactions.
- Proficiency in spelling, grammar, and proofreading.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to complete a post-offer criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Reliability regarding punctuality and schedule changes.

- Work is performed on-site.
- This is a paid, part-time position with rolling recruitment.
- Candidates must not be a SURS annuitant, or must be willing to suspend their SURS annuity upon employment, unless receiving an annuity under the Self-Managed Plan or by lump sum payment.
