About the role#
Paumanok Veterinary Hospital offers an externship program for students currently enrolled in an accredited Veterinary Technician program. This role provides practical clinical experience to help you prepare for your career. You will work directly with our veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to gain exposure to routine and emergency veterinary care.
What you'll do#
- Assist with examinations, diagnostics, and treatments.
- Administer medications and vaccinations.
- Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures.
- Conduct laboratory tests including bloodwork and urinalysis.
- Take radiographs.
- Provide care for hospitalized animals.
- Educate pet owners on preventive care.
- Help maintain a clean and organized work environment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Veterinary Technician program.
- A strong interest in animal care and a willingness to learn.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic knowledge of animal handling and medical terminology is helpful.
