About the role#
We are looking for a Naval Architect Intern to join our team in Austin for the summer of 2027. You will support the design, analysis, and development of autonomous surface vessels. This role offers hands-on experience in both traditional naval architecture and autonomous technologies. You will work alongside experienced naval architects who will provide mentorship throughout the term.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, development, and analysis of hull forms, structures, and systems for autonomous surface vessels.
- Run hydrodynamic and stability calculations, including resistance, propulsion, and maneuvering simulations.
- Work with senior engineers on CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management.
- Help integrate autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs.
- Assist with model tests and validation alongside engineers and programmers.
- Join design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new and existing vessel concepts.
- Research developments in naval architecture, autonomous technology, and defense requirements.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for internal use and client presentations.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of naval architecture principles, including ship design, stability, and hydrodynamics.
- Familiarity with CAD software like Rhino, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Orca3D, ANSYS, or equivalent software.
- This position requires U.S. Person status to access export-controlled information.

- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
- Work Modality: On-site, 40 hours per week.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
