    About the role#

    The E.E. Just Fellowship is a workforce development program at the South Carolina Aquarium. It aims to support HBCU students and recent graduates pursuing careers in science and conservation. This position focuses on the operation of the Water Quality Lab and the maintenance of complex life support systems to protect the animal collection.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform chemical analysis on all aquatic systems.
    • Collect and interpret data to monitor life support systems.
    • Log and report analyzed results to appropriate staff.
    • Maintain freshwater purification systems.
    • Maintain water quality lab equipment and perform routine analysis.
    • Learn about saltwater acquisition and purification processes.
    • Assist with special projects and support aquarist staff as needed.

    What you'll need#

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Oceanography, or biological sciences.
    • A strong background in chemistry.
    • Previous experience with analytic equipment in a laboratory setting.
    • Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Willingness to work in environments with frequent exposure to wet, slippery, or chemical conditions.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

    • Location: Charleston, South Carolina.
    • Term: Fall 2026.
    • Modality: On-site, full-time.
    • Compensation: $14.50 hourly stipend with a housing stipend available.
