About the role#
Specialty Granules LLC is hiring an R&D Co-op for the Winter 2027 term. You will work within our Roofing and Analytical Laboratories in Hagerstown, Maryland. This role provides an opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on new product development and standardized testing. You will be assigned a mentor to help guide your work and professional development during the term.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the creation and optimization of new inorganic coating technology.
- Prepare samples for analytical testing using various laboratory devices.
- Use techniques such as microscopy, titrations, color readings, and total solar reflectivity.
- Conduct investigations to identify root causes for technical problems.
- Export, analyze, and organize laboratory data.
- Generate accurate and concise technical reports.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Engineering, or Materials Science.
- At least sophomore standing with a minimum 2.8 GPA.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and G-Suite.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical operations essential for chemistry applications.
- Ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without employer-sponsored visa support.
