About the role#
The Transportation Intern serves as a Shop Mechanic Helper at the Brooksville Operations Center. This position supports fleet and field operations by assisting mechanics and maintaining shop readiness. You will help ensure agency vehicles remain safe, reliable, and ready for use. This is a part-time role working 20 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist mechanics with daily shop operations and maintenance tasks.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and fluid services.
- Conduct walk-around inspections to check tire condition, lights, belts, hoses, and emergency equipment.
- Install reflective striping, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Learn to document work orders and interact professionally with personnel.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
- Basic automotive knowledge and experience.
- Basic math skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
