About the role#
As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern at The Toro Company, you will work on real-world projects involving electrification and autonomous equipment. You will contribute to the design and implementation of firmware and electronics, working alongside experienced design engineers to optimize product performance. This role is based in Bloomington, Minnesota, and is a full-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Design embedded software applications for Toro equipment.
- Develop, debug, and enhance firmware for electrification and autonomous projects.
- Investigate and define requirements for new products.
- Collaborate with team members to implement electronics and firmware solutions.
- Resolve integration challenges involving multiple software applications and electronics.
- Work with electronic and system engineers to optimize overall product performance.
- Perform validation and testing of electronics and embedded software.
- Assist engineers in defining interfaces and optimizing hardware-software performance.
- Create detailed hardware and firmware design and validation documentation.
What you'll need#
- Current Junior or Senior status pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Interest in embedded systems.
- Familiarity with developing embedded firmware for 8/16/32-bit microcontrollers in C or C++.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, RS232, and CAN.
- Understanding of the relationship between hardware and software.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of integrity.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and desktop application development in C++ or C# is preferred.

- Location: Bloomington, Minnesota.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 17, 2027, to August 6, 2027).
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time.
- Compensation: Paid position with an anticipated hourly rate of $22 to $28.
