About the role#
The Toro Company is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for our Value Engineering (VAVE) team for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Bloomington, Minnesota. You will work directly on product cost, value, and design optimization during the program, which runs from May 17, 2027, through August 6, 2027.
What you'll do#
- Lead VAVE assignments from initial concept and feasibility assessment through design, cost justification, and validation.
- Design and prototype components or subsystems using calculations, CAE, and testing.
- Use data analytics to identify and prioritize cost-saving opportunities.
- Calculate total cost models to secure program approvals.
- Manage project documentation, including engineering drawings, BOM updates, and certification reports.
- Perform competitive product teardowns to analyze cost structures.
- Coordinate with outside consultants, labs, and suppliers to meet project objectives.
- Partner with NPD and test engineers to develop validation plans.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited Bachelors or Masters program in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Agricultural, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Junior or Senior academic standing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well with cross-functional teams.
- Basic knowledge of manufacturing methods like welding, stamping, steel fabrication, metal casting, and injection molding.
- Ability to travel to local test sites, suppliers, and manufacturing facilities as needed.
- Preferred experience includes engineering drawings, GD&T, data analytics, AI tools, Lean NPD, and project management.

- Compensation: Paid position with an anticipated hourly rate of $22 to $28.
