About the role#
The Student Extern in Radiology Imaging Services supports the X-Ray department by assisting with patient screening, positioning, and imaging. You will work under the supervision of a Radiology Technologist, Radiology Team Leader, and Radiologist to produce diagnostic images. This position is part-time and operates on a rotating, contingent shift schedule.
What you'll do#
- Screen patients before exams to verify identity, clinical history, and orders.
- Follow procedure protocols as specified by the radiologist.
- Perform exams using proper techniques suitable for the patient's condition.
- Complete patient documentation according to hospital and department policy.
- Maintain cooperative relationships with staff and contribute to problem-solving.
- Ensure patient confidentiality and adhere to safety standards.
- Review patient schedules and monitor department supply levels.
- Provide care that considers the age, development, and cultural needs of patients.
What you'll need#
- Completion of the first year of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program and current enrollment in the second year.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Ability to pass the ARRT (R) certification within 6 months of completing your program.
- Note that incumbents may remain in this role for a maximum of 18 months.
