About the role#
UL Solutions is seeking a Renewables Intern to join our Renewable Energy Advisory and Independent Engineering teams for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on a 10-12 week project, collaborating with staff on energy production modeling and technical due diligence. Depending on project needs, you will be assigned to either the Wind Energy Advisory group or the Solar Energy Advisory group.
What you'll do#
- Support pre-construction resource assessments and energy production modeling.
- Identify project risks by reviewing designs, technology, contracts, and financial model inputs.
- Enhance analytical tools, processes, and support internal projects.
- Conduct research and technical writing.
- Wind: Validate meteorological data, run atmospheric models, and perform data preparation for raster datasets.
- Wind: Review project documents including EPC contracts, O&M agreements, PPAs, and interconnection studies.
- Solar: Evaluate pre-construction solar PV systems and perform uncertainty and sensitivity analysis.
- Solar: Analyze production and weather data to develop energy yield estimates.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s (rising senior) or master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy, Atmospheric Science, or Physics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated interest in renewable energy technologies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication skills for writing and presenting technical information.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with power systems or electrical fundamentals is preferred.
- Experience with Python or R, data manipulation libraries like Pandas, and data visualization tools is a plus.
- Interest in process improvement, automation, and efficiency enhancements.

- Compensation: $23.00-$25.00 per hour.
- Status: Full-time internship.
