About the role#
The California Energy Commission is looking for a Student Assistant to join the Office of Commissioner Gallardo. This fellowship supports the office by researching clean energy topics, including geothermal development, energy security, and tribal energy initiatives. You will help evaluate regulatory processes and produce materials to support the work of the Commissioner.
What you'll do#
- Research and analyze policies related to geothermal energy, siting, and permitting.
- Evaluate federal, state, local, and tribal regulatory processes for clean energy projects.
- Identify policy gaps and regulatory barriers to improve project development.
- Write memos, briefing materials, reports, and presentations for the Commissioner and office staff.
- Monitor legislation, regulatory proceedings, and industry trends.
- Collaborate with Commission staff, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution on the affiliation list.
- Minimum of six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students.
- Minimum 2.0 GPA or above.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Majors in Political Science, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, or related fields.
Location & details#
- This position is remote. You must reside and perform all work within California.
- The role is part-time and non-benefited.
- Work hours are typically Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM, up to 24 hours per week during the academic year.
