About the role#
The California Energy Commission is seeking a Student Assistant to join the Office of Commissioner Gallardo. You will support the office by conducting research on geothermal energy, clean energy siting, and tribal energy initiatives. This position is a part-time, temporary role that offers the chance to contribute to state-level energy policy and planning.
What you'll do#
- Research and analyze geothermal energy development, clean energy siting, and permitting processes.
- Evaluate federal, state, local, and tribal regulatory requirements.
- Draft policy memos, briefing materials, reports, talking points, and presentations for the Commissioner and staff.
- Track emerging legislation, regulatory proceedings, and industry trends.
- Work with Commission staff, government agencies, and stakeholders to support policy initiatives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution.
- A minimum 2.0 GPA.
- Enrollment in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to think critically, perform thorough research, and communicate results clearly.
- A declared major in Political Science, Public Health, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field.
Location & details#
- This is a remote position. You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
- Compensation ranges from $20.08 to $35.70 per hour.
- Work hours are flexible, generally Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Students may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
